Almost everyone has darker skin in their underarms than the rest of their body. And even though some people don’t care, there are millions of people who want an even skin tone.
The problem is that since your underarm sweats more than other areas of the body, not all whitening agents work well. This article discusses some of the best- and worst- ways to lighten this part of the body.
Natural Alternatives- Do they Work?
There are a lot of natural, homemade remedies to whiten your skin. Probably the most popular is applying lemon juice directly to the skin, allowing it to dry, and then rinsing it off with warm water. The problem with this method is that since your underarms sweat a lot, the lemon juice often washes off before it can fully do its job.
Another common method involves mixing together several ingredients into a paste. A few common ingredients are almonds, turmeric and papaya. There are several problems with using these for your underarm. For one thing, the mixture often feels “slimy”, depending on what you use. Because you need to leave the mixture on your skin for at least 20-30 minutes at a time, you end up wasting a lot of time each day just waiting for this stuff to work.
The best non-cream, natural method is to use something such as aloe vera on your underarms. But this can also feel uncomfortable, and aloe vera doesn’t work as well as most skin whitening creams.
What About Soaps?
There are a lot of soaps on the market these days that can whiten your skin. They include all kinds of ingredients- some natural, some completely man-made (synthetic formulations).
Though these soaps can be effective, remember that regular use can make the skin extremely dry. Soaps are primarily meant for cleaning the skin and thereby make the skin look lighter in tone.
That’s why its recommended to go with lotions or creams. They are fast acting, safer and deliver more long lasting results than soaps.
Why Pills Don’t Work
While pills can be somewhat effective, we don’t recommend using them as your number one choice for very dark underarms. The reason is that when you take pills to whiten your skin, ALL of your skin is affected.
Even though this may sound like a good thing- but some people experience side effects and in some results tend to be much slower than when creams or lotions are used.
Man-Made vs. Natural Creams
Skin whitening creams are usually your best option. Because the cream can be directly applied to your underarms, you have control over where- and when- the skin bleaching occurs.
These days, most creams on the market are entirely synthetic. They are full of chemicals that, while effective, may have long-lasting side effects.
For example, most chemicals used for skin bleaching are toxic for the long-term. Your body isn’t designed to take in these chemicals at all- much less for months and even years at a time.
Chemical-based brightening products have a lot of possible side effects. Thin skin, increased sensitivity to the sun, acne and weaker skin elasticity are a few examples. And because many creams include steroids, these steroids can eventually make their way into the bloodstream.
As you might expect, its recommended to avoid creams that are primarily made up of unnatural chemical agents. Even if you are trying to make your underarms one shade lighter, the use of these creams can lead to negative results.
Best Skin Lightening Cream for Dark Underarm
There are a few creams out there that contain primarily natural ingredients. These are always recommended, because a high concentration of compounds from nature is much less likely to cause negative side effects in the body.
Conclusion
Even though there are a lot of different methods to whiten your skin these days- most are not effective for your underarms. Primarily because of the sweat that accumulates in the underarms or because of side effects.
